Dewatering of cofferdam floor at Markthal
Right in the heart of Rotterdam, Martens en Van Oord worked on the realisation of a four-story carpark for the Markthal. The last 11,000 cubic metres of clay and peat was extracted from the cofferdam using a cutter suction dredger. As part of this process, Kurstjens mechanically dewatered this stream of 1000 m³ per hour into semi-solid dry ground using two mobile decanters. This allowed the water released to be treated such that the recycled water in the cofferdam contained less than 50 mg of insoluble components per litre. All this was carried out on a very small working terrain right next to the cofferdam in the centre of Rotterdam.
