Riverbed remediation Essche Stroom

At Essche Stroom, Kurstjens demonstrated what a truly integrated approach looks like. Commissioned by Waterschap De Dommel, 120,000 m³ of heavily chromium-contaminated dredged material was processed efficiently and sustainably – using only in-house equipment and expertise.

By combining cutter suction dredgers, direct on-site sediment treatment (in-water), and mobile sludge dewatering, the entire process was integrated into one smart, closed-loop system.
The cleaned sand fraction was immediately reused within the watercourse, while the contaminated sludge fraction was dewatered into a solid cake for controlled disposal.

Results:

  • Maximum efficiency without unnecessary transport

  • Preservation of watercourse stability through immediate reuse of cleaned sand

  • Significant volume reduction through effective sludge dewatering

  • Year-round execution with respect for flora and fauna

  • Safe operations in accordance with BRL-OCE, including in UXO-risk areas

This project highlights what Kurstjens stands for:
technically advanced solutions, executed fully in-house, with maximum control over quality, planning, and results.
